Video—Giant Tiger Being Hand Fed at Gold Coast

This minute-and-a-half video shows a giant tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) being hand fed at Gold Coast Marine Aquaculture, a shrimp farm in the state of Queensland.  Nick Moore, general manager at the farm, says, “The more generations that you go through, the easier the animals are to handle.  They literally become tame.”  Gold Coast, now working with twelfth-generation tigers, is the first tiger shrimp farm in the world to produce 100% of its seedstock.    The video contains some quick shots of tigers swimming and feeding.

Gold Coast Marine Aquaculture is one of six nominations for the Royal Agricultural Society’s (RAS) President’s Medal 2013.  The judging process began with 5,000 products submitted to the Sydney Royal Wine, Dairy and Fine Food Show.  From those products, judges chose six champions as finalists for the President’s Medal.
