Benefits from Production Shortfalls in Other Countries

Bangladesh’s shrimp exports have been on the rise since June 2013 as demand from the USA and Europe increases because of production shortfalls in some of the major shrimp exporting countries.

Shrimp exports rose by 33.91 percent to $56.55 million in July 2013, compared to July 2012, according to Export Promotion Bureau data.

Around 35 percent of the Bangladesh’s shrimp exports go to the USA market, 45 percent to the European Union market, and Japan, Russia and other countries take the remaining 20 percent, according to the exporters’ association.
