Crab Farming Around Cox’s Bazar

Crab farmers in the coastal areas around Cox’s Bazar export their produce to 18 countries, and the potential exists for making crab farming a billion dollar export industry.  For this to happen, the government needs to provide easy credit to the farmers, train them and encourage modern farming methods.  Currently farmers collect wild juveniles from coastal areas, the perimeters of shrimp farms and estuaries.  At the farm gate, soft shell crabs weighing 450 grams sell for $11.00 to $11.63 a kilo.
