Financing for Small Shrimp Farms

On May 5, 2015, the Palli Karma Shahayak Foundation (PKSF), with support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation (BSFF), the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) and the government of Bangladesh organized a workshop titled “Building Trade Capacity of Small Scale Shrimp and Prawn Farmers in Bangladesh: Investing in the Bottom of the Pyramid”.

This project, which started in October 2013 and will run through June 2015, was funded at $568,750.  One thousand shrimp farmers were selected for the project in three southwestern districts, Khulna, Bagerhat and Satkhira.  Thus far, the farmers have increased production by 48%.

PKSF and BSFF have now signed a memorandum of understanding that will provide microcredit to the farmers.
