Shrimp Traceability Software

International research group WorldFish has launched a new digital application for Bangladesh’s shrimp farmers that will manage the traceability of their shrimp.  The app, “eServices Everywhere (ESE) from SourceTrace”, will process and analyze data from all levels of the farming process and provide traceability details from the hatchery to the harvest.  A buyer will be able to trace the shrimp back to the farmer.

WorldFish said it would pilot the initiative in southwestern Bangladesh, the heart of the country’s shrimp farming industry, for five months (to May 2016).  During that period, it will collect first-hand feedback from farmers, middlemen and its field staff to identify improvement opportunities for a future, larger scale rollout.

Bangladesh earns around $190 million from shrimp exports annually.  The European Union is its largest market.
