Video—Saltwater Intrusion with a Natural Twist

This two-minute video discusses saltwater intrusion from shrimp farms in southern Bangladesh.  It has ruined the catch of freshwater fish, affected the mangroves and made it impossible to grow tradition crops like rice and vegetables.  Mahmudul Karim, a lobbyist for the shrimp industry with the Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation, however, points out that for thousands of years, before traditional farmers build levies to prevent saltwater intrusion, the whole area was a saltwater marsh.
