CreveTec’s New Shrimp Farm, Seminar and Tour

Eric De Muylder (, a long-term participant in world shrimp farming as a consultant and shrimp feed specialist, has built his own shrimp farm near Brussels, Belgium.

De Muylder says: CreveTec has built a shrimp farm in Ternat, only 15 kilometers from Brussels.  Using bioflocs to maintain water quality, it’s a three-phase system: nursery, pre-growout and growout.  The farm has a capacity to produce 20 metric tons of fresh shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) a year.  All water is continuously recycled.  The farm started operation in April 2015 and began marketing shrimp in September.  It harvests 30/40-count shrimp per kilogram (25-35 grams each).  All shrimp are sold to the public and restaurants.  The shrimp are marketed under the brand name Eric’s Gambas.

CreveTec produces its own feeds, so it has everything under its own control.  It also has a feed research lab, where it develops feeds and does research for others.

The farm will also serve as a demonstration and research station.  CreveTec plans to design and set-up shrimp farms in Europe and around the world and allow those farms to train their staffs at its facilities in Belgium.

Seminar and Farm Tour

On Saturday, October 24th, 2015, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., CreveTec will conduct a seminar on intensive shrimp farming and a tour of its new farm.  The seminar will cover: using bioflocs to manage water quality, the difference between pond and biofloc systems, an introduction to shrimp nutrition, a description of the CreveTec system—and a tasting of Belgian beer.  The farm tour will be conducted in small groups of five people with a choice of Dutch, English, French or Spanish.
