Video—Industry-Wide ACS Certification

Through its Enterprise Innovation Challenge Fund, Compete Caribbean granted the Belize Shrimp Growers' Association $500,000 to prepare its farms for Aquaculture Stewardship Council certification.  This will be a unique certification because it’s industry wide, a “cluster”, and involves 85% of the shrimp farms in Belize.

This four-minute video discusses the grant and contains some great shots of Belizean shrimp farms, hatcheries—and farmers, including: David Griffith, Belize Aquaculture, Ltd. (David has left BAL, and now works for the National Aquaculture Group in Saudi Arabia); Alvin Henderson, Royal Mayan Shrimp Farms, Ltd.; Isabelle Gayot, Belize Aquaculture, Ltd.; and Linda Thornton, Cardelli Farms, Ltd.

Aquaculture Stewardship Council certification relies on “metric based standards” (hard numbers) to determine which farms get certified.
