The State of Ceará, Statistics

Cristiano Peixoto Maia, chairman of the Shrimp Sector Chamber and the Association of Shrimp Breeders in the state of Ceará, says the state produced about 20,000 metric tons of shrimp in the first six months of 2013 and expects to produce another 20,000 tons by the end of the year, an increase of 20% over 2012.  In 2012, the shrimp farming industry in Ceará employed 12,000 people.  Maia expects that number to jump to 15,000 by the end of 2013.
