Brunei

New Shrimp Farming Project

In April 2014, Golden Corporation, a seafood exporter, received a permit to develop a 200-hectare shrimp farm along the Tutong River Estuary.  Richard Chuang, Golden Corporation’s managing director, said construction work on the farm would be completed in 12 to 18 months.  The company will farm tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) and blue shrimp (P. stylirostris) and will build a hatchery for blue shrimp.  Chuang said the project would cost approximately $50 million to construct and that it would employ 500 to 600 people and produce 2,940 metric tons of shrimp by 2017.
