Guolian Aquatic Products—Third Quarter 2015 Profits Surge

Guolian Aquatic Products, one of China’s biggest shrimp farmers and shrimp exporters, reported a surge in its third quarter net profit, up 336% year-on-year to $6.77 million.  Year-to-date profits, however, were down 90%, compared to the same period in 2014.

Guoliah said it would continue tapping domestic markets through online sales, though that business has not generated meaningful results and “it remains risky”.

Exports to relatively new markets—Hong Kong, Australia, Mexico and the Middle East—are most likely to be impacted by the unstable currency environment, Guolian said.

During the recent China Fisheries and Seafood Expo, Guolian reported that it had started importing wild Argentine shrimp and also farmed shrimp from Ecuador for sale in the domestic market.

In addition, Guolian displayed farmed Penaeus vannamei from Proexpo, a processor in Argentina.
