Aquaculture Insurance Conference—Shrimp Speakers

Jim Wyban, Ph.D., High Health Prawns, Ltd., Thailand

Topic: “An Overview of the Shrimp Industry and Its Practices”


Jim Wyban’s expertise covers shrimp breeding and genetics, industrial-scale postlarvae production, all-natural shrimp production, biosecurity and management solutions for disease control, project management and domestication, and breeding of certified specific pathogen free shrimp.  He has been involved in the marketing and export of high health shrimp broodstock, and the selective breeding of virus-resistant, fast growing shrimp.


Victoria Alday-Sanz, Ph.D.

Topic: “Management of Shrimp Diseases”


Victoria Alday-Sanz is a veterinarian with M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Stirling University in the United Kingdom.  For over 20 years, she has worked on shrimp diseases, diagnostics, health management and biosecurity.  She does consulting for private companies and maintains links to the academic world through teaching.  She has published over 30 papers in peer review journals and is co-author of the Diagnosis of Shrimp Diseases (published on a CD) and editor of The Shrimp Book.  Presently, she is the Director of Aquaculture Health at Pescanova, which owns several shrimp farms in Latin America.


Marcos Moya, General Director, Larvas Genesis, Sonora, Mexico

Topic: “Insurance Needs of the Shrimp Industry”


Marcos Moya is responsible for all technical and administrative activities at Larvas Genessis’s integrated shrimp farm in northwest Mexico.  His duties include strategic planning, administrative control, finance, production, quality control and sustainability.  He is heavily involved in disease preventive, feeding efficiency and cost reduction.
