Rainfall, Disease and Fishmeal Prices

Frequent rain in May 2014 has led to severe shrimp disease problems in many regions of southern China.  In parts of Guangdong Province, 30 to 90 percent of the farms have been hit with disease.  But in other parts of Guangdong Province, around Zhanjiang, for example, and in Guangxi Province, the weather has been good and diseases are less of a problem.

In the last two days, at some ports in northern China, prices rose to $1,920 a metric ton for super prime fishmeal.  At the same time, at southern ports, the prices for super prime fishmeal was stable at $1,887 a ton.
