Dominica Republic

Bans All Shrimp Imports from EMS Countries

The Dominican Republic has banned all shrimp imports from China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh and Mexico.  According to authorities, the measure was taken due to outbreaks of early mortality syndrome (EMS) or acute hepatopancreatic necrosis syndrome (AHPNS) in those countries.

Dominican Agriculture Minister Luis Ramon Rodríguez said the ban is based on recommendations from the regional office of the World Organization for Animal Health.
