Subsidy Duties to Cost $60 Million


Ecuadorian officials say the new 11.68% tariff on shrimp sales to the United States will cost the industry $60 million a year.  “It’s a major blow to the competitiveness of the product,” said the president of the Chamber of Aquaculture, Jose Antonio Camposano.


In 2012, Ecuadorian shrimp exports were valued at $1.27 billion, and about 40% of that amount, equalling $512 million, was sold to the USA
