Ecuador

Extends Ban on All Shrimp Imports from EMS/AHPND Countries

Translated by Google: On July 25, 2013, Ecuador’s Deputy Minister of Aquaculture and Fisheries declared a one-year ban on shrimp imports (and other products used in shrimp farming) from countries with EMS/AHPNS.  That ban was renewed in the summer of 2014, and now it has been renewed for a second time to safeguard the Ecuadorian industry from the introduction of early mortality syndrome.

The ban provides for the temporary suspension of imports of shrimp in all its forms regardless of their origin, as well as biomass and cysts of Artemia, probiotics and other products used in shrimp farming from countries where the presence of early mortality syndrome (EMS or AHPND) or atypical mortalities have been observed in farmed shrimp.
