Nutreco Acquires 75% of Expalsa’s Feed Mill

Nutreco has successfully completed its acquisition of 75 per cent of the shares in Gisis S.A., the shrimp and fish feed subsidiary of the Expalsa group.

The acquisition makes Nutreco one of the top three shrimp feed suppliers in the world.

Ecuador’s shrimp feed market is Latin America’s largest and the third largest in the world after China and Thailand, and it’s growing at around eight per cent annually.

Nutreco employs approximately 10,000 people in 30 countries with sales in over 80 countries. It is listed on the NYSE Euronext stock exchange in Amsterdam and reported annual revenues of almost $7 billion in 2012.

Since 1984, Expalsa has been the biggest shrimp farming operation in Ecuador.  All of its production is organic and certified under several international standards.
