Ecuador

Record Shrimp Exports in First Half of 2015

In June 2015, Ecuador's combined shrimp exports to Asia, the United States, the European Union, Africa and Latin America were 63.4 million pounds.

In the first six months of 2015, its total exports were 343 million pounds, a 14 percent increase over last year and an all-time record.

On average, Ecuadorian shrimp shipments are trending 12.5 percent higher per month in 2015, compared to 2014.

The Asian market remains Ecuador's top export destination.  Shrimp exports to Asia were 135.4 million pounds through June, a 60 percent increase, compared to the same period in 2014.

Overall, in 2015, shrimp production and exports out of Ecuador were at record levels.  These higher volumes continue to be absorbed by sales to the Asian market and explain why shipments to the USA market were down in the first half of the year.
