Farming Shrimp in Sea Cages

The Instituto Nacional de Pesca has signed a cooperation agreement with fishing cooperatives in Puerto Engabao, Ecuador, for and experimental project to farm shrimp in sea cages.  On February 12, 2014, 100,000 postlarvae were stocked in cages located 1.8 kilometers off the Pacific coast of Guayas Province, just north of the Gulf of Guayaquil.  The cooperatives will guard and maintain the cages, feed the shrimp and supply transportation in small boats to public officials who wish to visit the project.
