Who Is Who Is Jorge Cordova?

January 1, 2017

I was born in 1966 in Guayaquil, Ecuador, the very heart of the country’s shrimp farming industry, and received my Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Biology from the University of Guayaquil in 1989 and my Master’s Degree in Mariculture from Texas A&M in 1997.  I also received a Master’s Degree in Economics and Management from Ecuador’s Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) in 2015.

During the late 1980s, I worked as a volunteer for the Oceanographic Navy Institute in Guayaquil, which resulted in trips to the Galapagos Islands and Antarctica.  I’ve done a lot of work on zooplankton, phytoplankton and chlorophyll and participated in studies on El Niño and Antarctica’s Bransfield Strait.

During the 1990s, I managed several shrimp farms around Ecuador’s Gulf of Guayaquil, including PENTEC, where I worked with Yosuke Hirono; Pesquera Bravito, where I was Production Manager; and Belere S.A., where I was a partner.  Since 2008, I’ve worked as Production Manager at Naturisa, Ecuador’s second largest shrimp producer, which has 3,000 hectares of ponds.
