Shrimp Imports Hit Five-Year Low in 2012

 

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP), citing International Trade Commission statistics, European Union shrimp imports hit a five-year low in 2012.

 

The European Union imported $4.5 billion worth of shrimp in 2012, 30.4 percent less than in 2011.

 

Ecuador’s shrimp exports to the European Union fell 13.8 percent to $544 million in 2012.  India’s exports dropped 9 percent to $405.4 million, and Vietnam’s fell by 42.5 percent to $360.3 million.

 

Thailand’s shrimp exports to the European Union dropped by 35.3 percent in 2012.

 

For the first quarter of 2013, Vietnam’s shrimp exports to the European Union fell by 5.2 percent to $56.6 million compared to the first quarter of 2012.
