Grupo Granjas Marinas Improving Seedstock, Increasing Production

In business for 39 years, Grupo Granjas Marinas, a large vertically integrated (hatcheries, farms and processing plants) shrimp operation on the Gulf of Fonseca, has launched a project to produce higher-quality, faster-growing postlarvae, hoping that it will be able to increase its shrimp exports from the current 28 million pounds a year to 56 million pounds a year within two years.  In addition to improved postlarvae, the project will implement a three-phase growout system in which shrimp will be moved from smaller to larger areas as they grow larger.

After Ecuador and Mexico, Honduras is the third largest producer of farmed shrimp in Latin America.
