 Biofloc Questions

Neeladri Penmetsa (neeladri.penmetsa@gmail.com) writes: I’m planning a trial run of a super-intensive, biofloc raceway for Penaeus vannamei in India and need information on feeding rates and estimating the number of shrimp in the raceway.  I know that it is almost impossible to determine the exact number of the shrimp in a biofloc raceway; however, it’s important to estimate the numbers so you know how much to feed the shrimp.  Are there any practical methods for estimating the number of shrimp in a biofloc raceway?  Also, since biofloc contributes to the feed requirement, is there a feeding formula that accounts for the contribution from biofloc.  I’d like a formula that accounts for the size and numbers of shrimp in the raceway and for the contribution from biofloc.  Finally, is there any practical method of determining how much feed the shrimp are consuming in a biofloc raceway?
