New Shrimp Quarantine/Broodstock Center in Andhra Pradesh

The state of Andhra Pradesh plans to build an aquatic quarantine facility and broodstock multiplication center for Penaeus vannamei near the city of Visakhapatnam.  The Visakhapatnam Fisheries Department has already handed over 30 acres of land for the project to the developer Marine Products Exports Development Authority (MPEDA).  The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Aquaculture in the state of Tamil Nadu has been entrusted with the task of designing the project.

India’s first quarantine/broodstock facility was built in the state of Tamil Nadu in 2009.
