Penver Products Gets Four Stars from BAP

Penver Products, Ltd., which farms shrimp in India, has achieved four-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification for its processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills.

The effort was coordinated by National Fish & Seafood (NFS), an importer/processor/distributor of seafood products in the United States that’s a division of Pacific Andes International Holdings Limited, which sources shrimp from Penver.

Jeff Sedacca, president of the shrimp division at NFS, said: “...We share a commitment to drive aquaculture improvements in India.  We will continue our work to help farmers, small and large alike, meet the BAP standards, and expect to...[import]...significant quantities of four-star BAP shrimp over the next 12 months.”

In addition, NFS and Penver are grouping together small-scale, single-pond farms for certification under a new BAP group program that’s in its pilot phase.  It will provide family farms with a cost-effective option to participate in the internationally accredited certification scheme.
