Huge Increase in Production Predicted

Meilaka Pandoe, a journalist for TROBOS Aqua (a monthly fisheries and aquaculture magazine in Indonesia), forwarded this report on the rapid increase of shrimp production in Indonesia:

Production of farmed shrimp reached 450 thousand metric tons in 2012 and, based on an intensive shrimp farming project in Banten, West Java, which is now being implemented in other parts of the country, production could jump to 600 thousand metric tons in 2013, a 33% increase.  Indonesia hopes to replace Thailand as the major supplier of shrimp to the United States.
