Jobs—PhDs Offered in Crab and Shrimp Farming

 

The Aquaculture and Fisheries Group at Wageningen University in the Netherlands has positions open for two PhD candidates in Semarang, Indonesia.

 

Qualifications:

Masters Degree, or equivalent, in aquaculture or marine resource management

Fluent in spoken and written Bahasa and English

Previous experience with shrimp or crab aquaculture

Knowledge of food web analysis and monitoring is highly desirable

Live in, or be willing to live in, Semarang, Indonesia

A working position at a research or academic organization in Indonesia

 

Job Description:

One of the PhD candidates will work on shrimp pond/tank management using locally produced feeds.  The other candidate will work on developing appropriate farm practices for blue swimmer crabs (Portunus pelagicus) using locally produced feeds.  The total duration of the assignment is 18 months, possibly extended to 48 months.  Experiments and lab work will be executed in Indonesia (28 months).  Research proposal, data analysis and thesis writing will be done in the Netherlands (20 months).
