Darden Restaurants to Continue with Lobster Farm

Contrary to skepticism on whether Darden Restaurants would continue its plans for a spiny lobster farm in Malaysia, the company is "continuing to pursue" those plans, said Darden spokesperson Rich Jeffers.

The company's decision to sell its Red Lobster restaurants and assets has not affected those plans, since the farm never planned to supply Red Lobster or the USA market, but instead, it intended to supply Asian markets, said Jeffers.  Yet even Asia won't be seeing any Darden-produced lobster any time soon.  "The earliest we said was 2017, and that would be initial, not full [sales volumes]," Jeffers said.
