QL Resources Buys Shrimp Hatchery from Cargill

QL Resources, a multi-national agro-food corporation with a shrimp farm in Sabah, Malaysia, is acquiring a shrimp hatchery from American food processing giant Cargill to support its shrimp farm.  The purchase is valued at $302,000.  Freddie Yap, the company’s head of financial reporting and investor relations, said QL produces 2,500 metric tons farmed shrimp a year.

QL Resources is one of the largest producers of chicken eggs in Southeast Asia with output of over 4.5 million eggs daily.  It is also Asia’s biggest manufacturer of surimi, a paste made from fish, producing 35,000 tons annually, and it makes 40,000 tons of surimi-based products annually, fish balls, for example.  In the first half of its current fiscal year, QL Resources had a net profit of $22.4 million, mainly driven by its marine products manufacturing segment.
