Cage Culture


The National Fisheries Institute (INAPESCA) has developed cage-culture technology for farming Pacific white shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) in Laguna de Barra de Navidad, Jalisco, Mexico.  In the first phase of its project, INAPESCA stocked 245,000 postlarvae in circular cages.  After three months, the shrimp reached an average weight of between 8.44 and 12.68 grams, producing a harvest of 1.2 metric tons.
