Correction—Freshwater Prawns, Not Freshwater Lobsters

Xiaowei Zhou (, an Aquaculture Statistician at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Italy, reports that the “freshwater lobsters” mentioned in yesterday’s item on North Korea were actually freshwater prawns:

Xiaowei Zhou said: The “freshwater lobsters” that failed to be mass produced in North Korea were actually the giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii).  The soft-shell turtle farm was modeled after the greenhouse turtle farms commonly seen in Zhejiang Province in Eastern China.  Several years ago turtle farmers from Zhejiang were hired as consultants/technicians in North Korea.
