The Qurun Aquapolis Project

On April 27, 2014, the Qurun Aquapolis Project signed a contract with Chinese construction company China Wuyi Company Limited for the development of $120 million, 500-hectare shrimp and sea cucumber farm in Ras Jibsh, Oman, 300 kilometers South of Muscat along the Arabian Sea.  It’s a joint venture between Arabian Marine Development (AMD) and Bank Sohar (Manager of Oman Development Fund).  The Lim Shrimp Organization will be the project manager.

The farm expects to produce around 4,000 metric tons of shrimp and 2,000 metric tons of sea cucumbers annually.  It will be a self-contained facility with:

• Ponds and Canals

• Desalination Plan

• Processing Plant

• Cold Storage Facilities

• A Waste Water Treatment Facility

• Incinerator Plant for Rubbish

• Feed Mills

• Hatcheries for Shrimp and Sea Cucumbers

In a June 8, 2013, article on Qurun Aquapolis, Shrimp News reported: “The species to be cultured will include giant tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon), Indian white shrimp (P. indicus), sea cucumbers (Holothuria scabra), Salicornia (an edible, salt tolerant plant), oysters and other bivalves.  When fully operational, the farm will produce approximately 4,500 metric tons of shrimp a year.  ...
