The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has issued 19 licenses to investors to set up aquaculture projects in Oman.  The total investment in these projects will be RO128.8mn [128,800,000 Omani rials = 334,458,576 USA dollars].  The ministry has granted the sites for the projects.  Investors will be responsible for preparing the land and developing the projects.

H.E. Hamad bin Said al Oufi, Undersecretary for Fisheries Wealth within the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, said that one of the projects is a shrimp farm that will break ground in a few weeks.  The project, financed mainly by Omani investors and partly by foreigners, is expected to produce 3,000 metric tons of shrimp a year with an expected value of RO30mn [30,000,000 Omani rials = 77,901,842 USA dollars].  The land allocated for the project is located in South Sharqiyah.
