EMS Symposium Update

Panama will host the XI International Symposium on Latin America Aquaculture on February 14–15, 2014.  The main objective of the symposium will be the launching of the first PCR EMS detection kit, developed by INTELLIGENE (Taiwan) and the University of Arizona (Dr. Donald Lightner).

In a four-hour seminar on Saturday afternoon, February 15, 2014, Simon Chung from INTELIGENE will demonstrate the kit and the use of POCK IT, a portable PCR Lab version of the kit.

Additionally, there will be presentations on EMS by Dr. Don Lightner, Dr. Roger Doyle and Dr. Daniel Gruenberg, and Biologist Beto Soto will review the EMS situation in México.   The speakers will discuss potential EMS vectors, EMS preventive measures and management practices to prevent and control EMS.

The event is sponsored by FARALLON AQUACULTURE, S.A. and SEA TECHNOLOGY, INC.
