Update on EMS in Indonesia

On April 30, 2013, I posted an item to this webpage that indicated The Philippines had banned live shrimp imports from Indonesia because early mortality syndrome (EMS) was present in Indonesia.  A reader in The Philippines helped me track down the original source of that information, which clearly said that the ban on imports of live shrimp from Indonesia was because IMNV was present in Indonesia, not EMS!

On April 22, 2013, The Philippine Department of Agriculture reported:

“In order to ensure that the shrimp industry remain EMS/IMNV free and as a precautionary measure to prevent the possible introduction of the diseases in the Philippines, the processing and approval of applications for permits to import live species of shrimps and other susceptible crustacean species from disease affected and immediate neighboring countries mentioned herein, is suspended indefinitely.”
