New Disease Outbreak

Wilter Yap Palma, Governor of Sibugay Province, located on the western tip of Mindanao Island, has instructed the agriculture office “to closely monitor” a report of prawn and shrimp mortalities in some parts of the province.  Governor Palma said his office has “verified the reports and has already ordered provincial agriculture personnel to closely monitor developments....”

In the nearby city of Zamboanga, an agricultural official has warned prawn farmers of a possible whitespot outbreak.

Barangay Vitali, 73 kilometers east of Zamboanga, has many crab, lobster, prawn and shrimp farms.

There was a red tide warning in the area during January 2014.
