Medal for “Father of Shrimp Farming”

On June 9, 2014, the Japanese government awarded a medal to Liao I-Chiu, Taiwan’s “father of shrimp farming,” in recognition of his contribution to shrimp farming exchanges between Taiwan and Japan.  In 1968, Liao played an important role in developing techniques for farming tiger shrimp in Taiwan.  Currently, he’s a fellow at Academia Sinica, Taiwan’s top research institution.  In 2012, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the USA-based Global Aquaculture Alliance.
