El Niño Exacerbated Drought Hits Shrimp Farms

 

Twenty-seven of Thailand’s 77 provinces have been listed by the government as being officially drought-stricken disaster areas, and there are drought-affected districts in another 46 provinces.  The government has instituted water rationing in many areas.  Pictured below is a deserted shrimp pond in Duphan Buri Province (west of Bangkok) that dried up because no water was available.
