Shrimp Exports and Imports in December 2013 and for All of 2013

Freshwater prawns, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, are not included in this report, and all prices are (FOB).

 

Exports: In December 2013, according to the Thai Customs Department, Thailand’s shrimp exports were 11,904.9 metric tons, worth $148.1 million, down 30% in volume and 31% in value, compared to November 2013.  The average price of exports in December 2013 was $12.44/kg.

 

For all of 2013, exports of Thai shrimp were over 199,361.3 metric tons, worth over $2.1 billion.  The average price of exports in 2013 was $10.81/kg.  In 2013, Japan and the United States were the primary buyers of Thai shrimp.

 

Imports: Although Thailand is one of the biggest producers of shrimp in the world, it imports some shrimp for processing, re-export and domestic consumption.  In December 2013, according to the Thai Customs Department, imports of shrimp, reached 1,249.9 metric tons, worth almost $11.3 million.  These figures are down 4% in volume and 2% in value, compared to November 2013.  The average price of imports in December 2013 was $9.06/kg.

 

For all of 2013, imports of shrimp reached 12,202.8 metric tons, worth over $97.1 million, and the primary suppliers were China, India, Argentina and Vietnam.
