SyAqua Begins Broodstock Sales in Thailand

SyAqua, a leading company in genetically improved Penaeus vannamei, has decided to focus on its breeding program in order to address the growing and specific needs for SPF genetically improved broodstock.  As a result of this change of focus SyAqua has ceased to produce PLs in Thailand.

SyAqua produces high-quality, SPF broodstock selected under Asian conditions.  Its program is based on between and within family breeding. Six hundred families per year are tested for growth rate and pond survival under commercial conditions, and in experimental challenges they are tested for Taura syndrome virus resistance.  The family tests are used to select the best animals in the genetic nucleus.  The siblings of the tested families are kept under very strict biosecurity and used to produce specific crosses for commercial broodstock.  By applying this technique SyAqua can produce SPF breeders selected for growth and survival while controlling for inbreeding.

“SyAqua is now starting to challenge its families with the strain of Vibrio parahaemolyticus causing APNHS (EMS) in their challenge-test facility.” [Emphasis by Shrimp News]
