Utah—Job—Great Salt Lake Brine Shrimp Cooperative

 

   

 

The Great Salt Lake Brine Shrimp Cooperative, Inc., was formed in 2006, when sixteen independent brine shrimp harvesting companies joined forces.  Today, the Cooperative harvests Artemia cysts (brine shrimp eggs) from the Great Salt Lake and its shores using state-of-the-art equipment, innovative techniques and technology, and some of the industry’s most experienced personnel.

 

The Cooperative has a position open for an Aquaculture Feed Scientist.

 

Qualifications:

 

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Aquaculture/Nutrition or Engineering from an approved four-year College or University (additional degrees a plus).

 

• Minimum of three years of experience in hatchery feed formulation, aquaculture feed regimens and feed trials.

 

• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (speaking, writing, listening, understanding).

 

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical information and data and to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

 

• Self-starter, responsible, strong work ethic, ability to work independently with limited supervision, ability to work collaboratively.

 

• High proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office software (especially Excel) and statistical analysis software.

 

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

 

• Study, revise and improve existing feed formulations.

 

• Design, supervise, coordinate and analyze testing and feed trials in laboratory, production and hatchery environments.

 

• Study the effectiveness of live feeds and manufactured feeds.

 

• Develop and maintain quality control procedures and protocols for feed production and provide feedback on quality assurance efforts.

 

• Provide technical support to customers and help develop technical literature for live and manufactured feeds.

 

• Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.

 

• Maintain effective communication with managers and colleagues regarding formulation, research, quality control and technical support.

 

• Perform other research and development duties as directed.

 

 

General Summary: The incumbent will be responsible for the study, formulation, revision and improvement of hatchery, nursery and maturation feeds and feed additives.

 

Company Description: Established hatchery feed company with loyal customer base and a bright future.  Based in Ogden, Utah, USA, the company produces, manufactures and supplies quality feeds for fish and shrimp hatcheries around the world.

 

Working Conditions: Full-Time position during regular hours (with adjustments to facilitate communications in international time zones) at company headquarters.  Indoor and outdoor work environments.  Positive, collaborative work environment with supportive management team and colleagues.

 

Physical Demands: Requires standing, sitting, walking, use of hands, reaching with hands and arms and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
