Ken’s Catch on China’s Love Affair with Ecuador

Could China’s love affair with Ecuador be coming to an end?  I don’t think so because Ecuador has enjoyed a 20% year-on-year growth in official shrimp exports to China.  This does not include product that is funneled into neighboring countries such as the 1,200 tons of shrimp exported to Vietnam, 80% of which ends up in China.  So why is this product not being imported directly?  It is a matter of taxes that Ecuador is paying to China, which Vietnam doesn’t require and which they don’t have to remit to China.
