Washington DC—Shrimp Imports in 2013

In 2013, India was the top shrimp exporter to the United States, displacing Thailand, the perennial top exporter.  India exported 94,211 metric tons to the USA, and second-placed Thailand exported 84,148 tons.

Indonesia finished third with 81,098 tons, Ecuador fourth with 74,525 tons and Vietnam fifth with 59,534 tons.  Vietnam, while well behind Ecuador in total exports, finished the year with a 45% increase in USA exports.

India’s increase of 42% was not as great as Vietnam’s, although its surge to the top was perhaps more significant.  Thailand, meanwhile, saw its total USA exports drop 38%, from 135,550 tons in 2012 to 84,148 tons in 2013.
