Washington DC—Shrimp Imports through July 2015

 

In July 2015, USA shrimp imports (47,620 metric tons) fell 4.0%, compared to July 2014 (49,621 tons).  From January to July 2015, however, shrimp imports (315,566 tons) increased 6.1%, compared to January to July 2014 (297,293 tons).  See statistics for individual countries below.

 

Imports from Indian and Indonesia were up sharply from July 2014 to July 2015 and from January-July 2014 to January-July 2015.  Imports from Ecuador, Vietnam and China were all lower from July 2014 to July 2015 and from January-July 2014 to January-July 2015.

 

Imports from Mexico were up sharply in July 2015, compared to July 2014, while most other Latin American imports were down, with the exception of Guatemala.

 

Imports from Ecuador were down sharply in July 2015, to compared to July 2014.

 

In July 2015, head-off, shell-on imports from India and Indonesia (mostly easy peel) were higher, compared to July 2014, and generally imports of 31-40 count and larger shrimp were mostly higher, while 41-50 count and smaller shrimp imports were mostly lower.

 

Peeled shrimp imports were higher in July 2015, compared to July 2014 and year-to-date.  Here again India and Indonesia led the way.  Vietnamese imports were sharply lower.

 

Imports of cooked shrimp were way down in July 2015, compared to July 2014, but still positive year-to-date.  Breaded imports were even for July 2015, compared to July 2014, but up substantially year-to-date.
