Florida—Florida Organic Aquaculture Reports

Florida Organic Aquaculture, one of the largest shrimp farms in the United States, reports: “In our best effort to keep you up to date on all of the exciting developments at FOA and our new retail location, our newsletter will be distributed every other month.  In addition, our subscribers will receive special announcements detailing upcoming events.”

We are very excited to announce that the Fellsmere Fresh Farmers’ Market, FOA’s new retail store, will open to the public full time as of Monday, August 24th!  Store hours: Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sundays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

We have been working hard over the past few months to prepare the Fellsmere Fresh Farmers’ Market both inside and out.  The store features fresh and frozen Happy Healthy Shrimp, as well as a variety of food items and goods, all of which have been grown or produced by locals within Indian River County.

“Florida Organic Aquaculture, LLC and the City of Fellsmere teamed up to host a delegation of government officials from Gauteng Province, South Africa, earlier this month.  The goal of the visit was two-fold: to determine the feasibility of establishing a similar aquaculture facility in Gauteng Province, as well as to examine the beneficial impact Florida Organic Aquaculture and the Florida Aquaculture Foundation have had on the Fellsmere area, which is similar to the site being considered in South Africa.  The delegation learned about FOA’s recirculating aquaculture system, specifically the project’s sustainability and minimal environmental impact.  They were treated to a special behind-the-scenes tour of our second production building, where the first four raceways are already under construction.”

Florida Aquaculture Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that promotes economic empowerment in Treasure Coast communities and beyond through education and training.
