Florida Organic Aquaculture Update

By the end of January 2016, Florida Organic Aquaculture (FOA) will complete the outside construction of its second production facility.  One of the modifications made to the second building is the addition of an automated feed system that will allow shrimp to eat continuously and ensure that feed is dispersed evenly throughout each raceway, which should reduce size differences at harvest.

In addition, FOA has completed construction of a new feed storage building and hired a new hatchery manager, Pablo Cisneros, who has over twenty years of technical and management experience in all phases of shrimp farming.  Originally from Ecuador, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Ecuador’s University of Guayaquil and owned his own shrimp hatchery and farm in Ecuador, before emigrating to the United States.

On February 27 and 28, 2016, in the town of Fellsmere, Florida Organic Aquaculture will take part in ShrimpFest 2016, a weekend-long, free, family festival that will feature FOA’s delicious “Happy Healthy Shrimp”.
