Shrimp Improvement Systems Hawaii, LLC, a producer of shrimp broodstock, located in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, has a position open for a hatchery technician that pays $13 to $14 an hour.

 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in biology, marine science/biology, or other related field is preferred.  In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, consideration will be given to candidates with a high school diploma or a GED (General Education Degree) and 1 to 3 years of aquaculture experience.

Job Description: As a key member of the Nucleus Breeding Center team, the jobholder will play an important role in providing daily care of nursery and broodstock animals.  The jobholder will assist in all aspects of feeding and caring for the animals.  The jobholder will ensure that the animals consistently have a clean and safe environment in order to gain optimum growth and health standards in accordance with Shrimp Improvement Systems protocols.

 

Supervisory Duties: None

 

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Provide optimal care to the animals at all times

• Prepare food and feed animals properly and according to schedule

• Monitor tank quality and water levels in tanks and adjust or clean as required

• Conduct daily tank flushing, water exchanges and treatments

• Assist with updating and monitoring inventories

• Perform data entry as required

• Work to continuously improve operations with respect to quality, safety and inventory levels

• Assist in maintaining a clean environment in the production area and around the campus

• Follow all health and safety guidelines and all biosecurity protocols

• Maintain confidentiality of company information

• Perform other duties as needed or directed by your supervisor
