Louisiana—Prices for Wild-Caught Shrimp Soar

Prices of Gulf of Mexico brown shrimp are rising rapidly because of the shortage of farmed shrimp from Asia caused by the EMS/APHNS epidemic.

Randy Pearce, owner of processing company Doran Seafood in Independence, Louisiana, said, “The pricing is the highest I have seen in six years.”  Prices for some sizes are $1.00 per pound higher than last season.  According to Pearce, many buyers are switching to smaller shrimp to save money.
