Massachusetts—Sky 8 Update

Sky8 was the first shrimp farm in Massachusetts.  Since 2013, its shrimp have been sold at local restaurants, recently, however, it has started selling at retail to Kam Man Food in Quincy.  Owner James Tran plans to also begin selling in Dorchester’s Truong Thinh market by the end of January 2015.  Tran’s facility is operating at capacity, and he expects to offer no more than 100 pounds per week at retail, though he hopes to expand over the next year to add additional stores.  Consumers can expect to pay $16 to  $20 a pound (by way of comparison, shrimp from New York’s Eco Shrimp Garden are $25 a pound).  Massachusetts has two other shrimp farms: Tasty Harvest in West Boylston and E&T Farms in West Barnstable.
