Maine—Award-Winning Picture of Larval Lobster

Jessica Waller, a University of Maine graduate student, took this picture of a tiny larval lobster (Homarus americanus).  In her second year of a master’s program in marine biology, she’s studying the effect of climate change on larval lobsters.  The photo made in the summer of 2015 shows a three-week-old larval lobster at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay, Maine.  It won a National Science Foundation visual media award and also appears in the March/April 2016 edition of Popular Science magazine.
